A hashtag I can truly get behind…

I recently took a friend up on an offer to join a local mommy exercise group called “No Excuse Moms.” I went to my first workout on Friday, 1/13/17 and I’m hooked. Why? Soooo many reasons. Almost everybody brings their adorable kids, we listen to music, and an amazing mama leads the workout. These ladies are so encouraging and motivated! It’s rubbing off on me… I’m writing this post because I’ve put off my own physical fitness for far too long…

It’s time to make my health a priority. You can get bogged down by housework, busy schedules, paying bills, working, and the long list of other responsibilities involved in living a life… But one of those responsibilities is taking care of yourself. Oooooooops. Pretty sure I’ve been putting that one off. NO MORE!

NEM is doing a 12-week weight loss challenge. They’ll be measuring % weight loss, % body fat loss, participation in their workouts (twice a week) and participation on their FB page (checking in, providing progress reports, motivating and supporting one another). I’m pretty excited. This post represents the commitment that I’ve made and is a necessary stepping stone on my path toward a healthier me. This may only be a 12-week challenge, but I’m going to continue it well past the 12 weeks. I’m challenging myself to lose at least 40 pounds this year. Don’t let your jaw hit the ground too hard – it’s totally doable for me. I’ve gained a lot of weight over the last 3+ years and before now, I haven’t put any effort into losing it. Mostly, I just want to feel better. I want to have energy and I don’t want to hurt anymore – emotionally or physically.

Lots of fears and doubts, but also excitement. Will I be able to do it? Will I finally get down to a size I used to be before babies?! I’m not sure I can do this… But I need to! Etc… etc… But I’ll just keep going back to my blog post “Finding Peace” to remind myself that when I have fears and doubts, I just need to turn to God in prayer. He will give me strength.

Think of your overall health as a pie, comprised of three delicious ingredients: spiritual health, physical health, and emotional (and/or mental) health. It’s important to not neglect any of those ingredients, although many of us are probably having a tough time with a couple… or maybe even all of them! That’s ok! It’s just important to realize that you are struggling – then make a plan. For example, if you’re hurting spiritually, reach out to your church. They would love to hear from you. If you don’t have a church, I know a great one! *wink* Or if you’re not there yet, just reach out to family and friends that you trust and ask for their prayers. Send ME a message and I’ll pray for you! The point is, do something. You’ll be happy you did.

My plan is simple: eat well and exercise regularly. Couldn’t get simpler, right? The plan’s a little more complicated than that, but it’d be a LOOOOOOOOOOONG read – though I just might do some more blog posts with some details! But that sums up the physical piece of my pie pretty well. Spiritually, I’m reading the bible every day, praying regularly (on my own and as a family), reading devotionals, volunteering at and attending my church each Sunday and posting to my blog. Emotionally, I’m forgiving myself for being human and for letting my weight get out of control. I’m accepting myself for who I am and letting go of who I was. I’m living in the now, not the past or the future. Mmmmm that’s going to be a tasty pie! Wait, now I want pie…

Just kidding! But, I am excited about what’s happening in my life – in my heart and soul. I am ready to love myself again! Time to work those muscles. Time to get STRONG!

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

– 1 Corinthians 10:31

So, how about you? What motivates you? What’s your favorite recipe that’s healthy? What are your spiritual, physical, and emotional health goals for 2017? Please share! And be sure to always encourage others.

Thank you and God bless you!
